Parkrose Farmers' Market is open at Parkrose High School every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through the end of October. In addition, the market is now offering a Sunday Edition from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at NE 136th and Sandy Boulevard.
Montavilla Farmers' Market is open in the 7600 block of SE Stark on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through October 31. They'll also be open the weekend before Thanksgiving for holiday shoppers.

The Parkrose Summer Bash is a free event coordinated by a coalition of area churches. It's being held Saturday, August 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Parkrose High School, in conjunction with the Parkrose Farmers' Market.
They'll have live entertainment, activities for kids (including inflatables!) and more. This event is also a food drive -- organizers hope to collect 35,000 pounds or more of non-perishable food for CityTeam Ministries and Shepherd's Door. And the Red Cross will be there for a blood drive....

Just like other districts in Oregon, Parkrose School District has had to make additional budget cuts over the summer. The district had already cut the equivalent of ten full-time teacher positions, along with other adjustments, before Governor Kulongoski announced another nine percent cut in school funding.

Many neighborhood associations are celebrating National Night Out this week. National Night Out is intended as a crime prevention event (take back our neighborhoods!), but it's really a time for the community to gather together and have fun! National Night Out is officially on August 3rd, but some events are held on different dates. Here are two in the Parkrose/Gateway area:

Portland Police have reported that they are investigating a homicide that occurred around 3:15 a.m. near NE 103rd and Clackamas (just south of Halsey, near Wunderland and Winco).

Portland Police responded to a bank robbery today at 11:00 a.m. at the U.S. Bank in Menlo Park Plaza, 12203 NE Glisan Street. Officers arrived quickly, established a perimeter, and took a suspect into custody at 11:20 a.m.
The suspect is 22-year-old Stephen Larue, who is being held at the Multnomah County Jail pending review by federal officials.
Morning newscasts are reporting an early morning shooting at The Refectory restaurant at NE 122nd and Halsey. One vehicle left the scene with an injured man and crashed at the AM/PM gas station at NE 102nd and Halsey. The man was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening neck wound. UPDATE: According to Portland Police, the shooting occurred at about 2:15 a.m. The victim left the scene in a friend's vehicle, which crashed into a gas pump at 102nd and Halsey a few minutes later. No one else was injured in either incident.

A fire at Eastside Foursquare Church (part of the Quality Inn/Rodeway Inn complex at 9727 NE Sandy Blvd.) destroyed both the worship space/meeting rooms and the Sacred Grounds Coffee Shop, causing an estimated $500,000 in damage.
